Paula Deen admits she is living with Type 2 Diabetes.
The TV cook famed for her love of fried chicken to mac and cheese casseroles says her health problems won’t stop her from eating the way she wants.
“I was determined to share my positive approach and not let diabetes stand in the way of enjoying my life,” she said.
“I’m excited to team up with Novo Nordisk on this initiative to show others that managing diabetes does not have to stop you from enjoying the things you love.”
American tabloid the National Enquirer first reported Deen’s diabetes in April 2010, but she never confirmed or denied the diagnosis until now.
“When Paula was diagnosed with diabetes, I think she worried that if the secret got out it would make her look like a hypocrite,” a family friend said at the time.
“Ironically, the very thing that made her rich and famous turned her into a poster child for what could happen if you follow in her footsteps!”
Deen turns 65 Thursday.
