Meryl Streep not keen on career in politics

Meryl Streep has ruled out ever becoming a real political iron lady.

The 62-year-old says that while she found playing former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher inspiring she could never go into politics herself.

“I know some actors have made that transition quite successfully but I don’t think it’s for me,” says Meryl.

“I have enormous respect for people who do that and stand up to take that kind of personal abuse but I couldn’t do it.”

Streep recently admitted she was shocked to discover she’s a gay icon.

“I just recently found out I’m a gay icon from a show where they do little arias from all my movies,” she said.

“It’s flattering of course. Whether or not Margaret is also a gay icon I don’t know. That’s a difficult one for me.”
